Forest Renewal BC funded the development of version 1.0 of TELSA. Later versions were developed with financial and scientific support from:

BC Ministry of Forests
US Forest Service
Parks Canada
Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources
Alberta Pacific Corporation
University of Alberta Integrated Landscape Management Program
The Nature Conservancy
Small Business BC
ESSA Technologies Ltd.

In 1996, a team led by Werner Kurz from ESSA Technologies Ltd. began developing TELSA for Walt Klenner of the BC Ministry of Forests, building upon the non-spatial semi-Markov VDDT model. The TELSA development team at ESSA currently includes Diana Abraham, Philip Bailey, Sarah Beukema, David Carr, Colin Daniel, Leonardo Frid, Don Robinson and Kelly Robson.

Dozens of people have contributed to the ongoing development of TELSA over the past 10 years, including the contributions of participants of several design and review workshops. Special thanks to Clint Alexander, Craig Auman, Phil Elkie, Alex Embrey, Julee Greenough, Walt Klenner, Werner Kurz, Brian Martin, Jim Manolis, James Merzenich, Christine Pinkham, Louis Provencher, Alison Reger, Alan Sharpe, Russ Walton, Tim Webb, Peter Whiteside and John Wilmshurst for their contributions. We also thank the members of the Scientific Review Committee — Bob Helfrich, Fred Bunnell, Marvin Eng, John Nelson, Glenn Sutherland, and Carl Walters — for their comments and input on the initial design of TELSA.
