Electricity Vietnam (EVN) is in the process of
strengthening its power generation, transmission and distribution
systems, supported in part by a World Bank loan. This project was
designed to strengthen EVN's capacity to prepare and implement environmental
assessments, to meet World Bank requirements and ensure that environmental
protection and resettlement safeguards are met.

reviewing environmental impacts assessments (EIAs)
and identifying areas for improvement; |

working with Vietnamese staff responsible for
the preparation of EIA reports to improve their quality; |
|
preparing and delivering a three-day national
workshop on EIA for transmission and small hydro; the audience
consisted of 80 staff and managers from Project Management Boards,
power companies, consultants and others responsible for implementing
projects; and |
|
preparing a Capacity Building and Training Plan
for environmental protection for the EVN Group. |
