Viet Nam-Canada Ocean Cooperation Program:
State of the Marine and Coastal Zone Report

The objectives of the Viet Nam-Canada Ocean Cooperation
Program were to provide policy development assistance for Viet Nam
in three major coastal zone sectors: integrated ocean planning and
development; marine and coastal environmental protection; and, sustainable
natural resource development.
One of ESSA's tasks for this project was to prepare
the first ever State of the Environment Report for Viet Nam's Marine
and Coastal Zone. ESSA's project team developed and delivered an
in-country training workshop on state of environment reporting,
researched and authored a number of sections of the report, edited
submissions from Vietnamese scientists, synthesized information
from all sources into a single integrated report, and presented
the final document to key members of the Viet Nam National Environment
Agency (NEA). The report was widely acclaimed, and continues to
be used by the NEA and international agencies as a reference source
for understanding Viet Nam's environmental status.
