Participatory Scenario Development for Climate Change Adaptation

World Bank

ESSA is leading a consortium with the International Institute of Sustainable Development (IISD) that is working with a range of stakeholders in Ghana and Bangladesh to develop climate change scenarios and potential adaptation strategies for key sectors including agriculture, water and infrastructure. The work involves using available data and climate projections to produce visualisations of locally specific scenarios for presentation at workshops attended by people of mixed technical ability. Workshop participants will then contribute to the development of realistic options for adapting to the potential changes illustrated by the scenarios. Information from the workshops will inform a wider World Bank program that is identifying and costing climate change adaptation options. A major focus of this assignment is building the capacity of local consultants, in Ghana and Bangladesh as well as four other countries, so that they can develop visualisations and facilitate a program of further workshops without external support.
