ESSA joins team led by CowaterSogema to support the Green Climate Fund’s Communities of Practice

May 17, 2019

ESSA is part of a consortium led by CowaterSogema selected as a provider of climate change expertise to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) under their Communities of Practice (CoP) framework. Together with other partners Climatekos, Trinomics and Viresco Solutions, the consortium will provide expertise in five core thematic areas: ecosystems and water resources, agriculture, innovative finance, climate economics and economic analysis. ESSA’s contribution will focus on ecosystems and water resources.

The CoP will drive transformative actions in support of the Fund’s mandate to provide financial support to developing countries, helping them limit or reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change. The CoP is a network of globally renowned expert organizations who will provide GCF with technical advisory services in core sectoral and key thematic areas, such as forestry, energy efficiency, urban development, health, and others.

The key goals of the Communities of Practice include:

  • ensuring that the best global knowledge and expertise on climate change guides the Fund’s operations;
  • leveraging the capabilities and expertise of partner organizations to maximize GCF internal capacity;
  • positioning GCF as a thought leader by integrating global climate knowledge and advancing its executional capacity;
  • supporting complementarity and exchanging information with other organizations working in the field of climate finance.

We are excited to join forces with CowaterSogema in this venture and support the GCF’s goal of promoting paradigm shift towards climate resilient and low emissions and development, as well as making a significant contribution to global climate goals.
