ESSA’s Darcy Pickard Announced as Co-chair of the Technical Advisory Committee on Science and Knowledge

August 29, 2019

This month, Darcy Pickard was announced as co-chair (along with Kevin Hanna, UBC) of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency’s newly established Technical Advisory Committee on Science and Knowledge.

The Technical Advisory Committee will provide valuable technical advice and guidance to support the transition to the new impact assessment system under the Impact Assessment Act (2019). The Committee will give the Agency expert advice on topics related to impact assessments, as well as regional and strategic assessments. Topics will include scientific, environmental, health, social and economic issues, as well as Indigenous knowledge. The Committee’s work will focus on technical guidance documents and best practices and methodologies rather than individual project assessments.

Comprised of 13 professionals (including two co-chairs) from across Canada, the Committee’s membership represents a variety of perspectives and disciplines.
